Dr. Leslye Tinson Whitehead is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice (licensed in four states: California, Nevada, Florida and Texas), a Senior Lecturer of Psychology and African American Studies at San José State University, and an adjunct professor at Evergreen Valley College. She is a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, an affiliate of the American Psychological Association, and a Life Member of the National Council for Black Studies.
As a licensed therapist, Dr. Whitehead began working in private practice in 2018. She specializes in adolescent mental health and working with small family units and individuals.
An active community advocate, Leslye Tinson was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2015 to the California Private Security Disciplinary Review Committee (North). In 2019, she was reappointed by Governor Gavin Newsom, and chaired the statewide committee until 2021, becoming the first woman and first Black woman to ever serve in this role.
Dr. Whitehead earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from San Francisco State University and Doctorate of Education in educational leadership from San José State University. She currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband, bonus son, and their dog. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
